THE PEABODY HOTEL

The Memphis Experience Pre-Convention Tour

Wednesday, October 28

Join us the day before the convention to experience two of the most exciting attractions Memphis has to offer: Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley; and the historic Peabody Hotel.

Our day begins at 8:15 AM when we leave for Graceland, where you will tour not only

Elvis’ mansion but also the new entertainment attraction known as Elvis Presley’s Memphis. Situated across the street from the mansion, the 200,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art complex features the world's largest and most comprehensive Elvis museum in the world--Elvis The Entertainer Career Museum; Presley Motors Automobile Museum; Elvis Discovery Exhibits; Elvis’s two airplanes; restaurants; souvenir shops; and a soundstage—all allowing you to experience the life and career of the legendary star. You will be on your own for a light snack or lunch at one of the three restaurants. For more information about Graceland go to www.graceland.com.

The fee for the Memphis Experience is $179 per person. Space is limited. If you have special needs, including dietary restrictions, please contact Kitty Murks at kmurks@aol.com. You must be registered for the event to participate in the pre-convention tour. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

The next stop is downtown Memphis and the Peabody hotel, founded in 1869 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the “South’s Grand Hotel”, the Peabody was the prestigious social center of the South and is famous for its gracious hospitality, fine cuisine and the legendary resident ducks which march through the lobby twice a day to great fanfare.

At 2:00 PM you will be treated to a fabulous three-course afternoon tea at Chez Philippe. (This is why we recommend only a snack or light lunch while at Graceland.) After tea you will have time to browse the shops on the ground floor of the hotel for souvenirs before gathering in the lobby for the duck parade at 5:00 PM. A REAL TREAT!  The ducks, which have been swimming in the lobby fountain all day, are escorted by the official Duckmaster across the red carpet and into the elevators for their ride back up to the rooftop Royal Duck Palace of marble and glass for the evening. We will be back at the hotel by 6:00 PM. For more information about the Peabody, go to www.peabodymemphis.com.
